Si tratta della quinta salita del celebre problema liberato nel 2010 da Paul Robinson

Jimmy Webb, classe 1987, ha iniziato bene il 2020: dopo nove giorni di tentativi, ha ripetuto “Lucid Dreaming” (V15/8C) sul Grandpa Peabody boulder,  a Bishop, in California.

Su Instagram il climber americano ha scritto: “… Mi sono convinto molto tempo fa di essere troppo grande, o solo troppo debole per riuscire a spingermi in questo stile. Quindi, con questo in mente, ne sono semplicemente rimasto lontano. Mi sento come se avessi sempre avuto paura di provare questo tipo di boulder perché nel profondo credevo che avrei fallito. A volte, però, vuoi solo dimostrare a te stesso che puoi farlo. O almeno provarci dannatamente.

“Questa stagione invernale a Bishop è stata la mia occasione. Sono arrivato con zero aspettative e nel mio nono giorno di lotta sono stato in grado di salire “Lucid Dreaming” V15 “.

Fu lo statunitense Paul Robinson a liberare il problema nel marzo 2010. Originariamente  lo valutò V16/8C+, per poi ridimensionare il grado a V15/8C. “Lucid Dreaming” è stato ripetuto da Daniel Woods (2014), Alex Megos (2015), Toru Nakajima (2017) e ora da Jimmy Webb (2020).

Throughout my climbing life I’ve always considered myself a terrible crimp climber. I convinced myself long ago that I was either too big, or just to weak to be able to push myself in this style. So with this in mind I’ve simply stayed away. I feel like I’ve always been scared to try these types of boulders because deep down I believed I was going to fail. Sometimes though, you just want to prove to yourself that you can do it. Or at least try damn hard. This was the case for me this winter season in Bishop. I arrived with zero expectations and on my 9th day of battle I was able to make an ascent of ‘Lucid Dreaming’ V15 // I learned a lot from this experience and the most important part of that was to always try and never shy away from a challenge just because you think you can’t do it. In climbing the biggest way anyone can improve is by pushing themselves towards a goal that they never thought possible. The process is long and exhausting but it teaches us so much.. and in the end we come out a stronger more capable person ready to push it even further. 👊 So happy 2020 everyone.
